over the fiscal cliff and will take almost every american with us. almost every family that pays taxes now will pay higher taxes. people's jobs will immediately be put in jeopardy, unemployment compensation will end for more than 2 million people, our defenses will be decimated by cuts that will put us in a position of accepting really unacceptable risks to our security, title 1 programs of education for low-income children will be cut dramatically, most people, including the congressional budget office, our own congressional budget office, say that the combination of tax increases along with the decreased spending required under the budget control act will push our economy back into recession in the new year. so i don't agree that no deal is better than a bad deal. in this case, i repeat, no deal is the worst deal because it allows our country to go over the fiscal cliff and really hurts almost every american family in our country, in our economy, as a whole. this shouldn't be a surprise to us. it's not as if, if i could use the metaphor, that congress was going along in a bus and --

enough time discussing ways to help them assimilate into civilian life. as the son of a u.s. air force veteran who spent 31 years in the air force, i'm acutely aware, as coul kay is, that it t just those that wear the uniform that serve, but their families as well. many returning vets and their families encounter a whole range of social and economic hardships that can be hard to overcome. most notably, the unemployment rate among our returning vets from afghanistan and iraq is significantly higher than for the general population, something i know kay has worked on extensively. she's also worked to get our veterans the medical assistance, the job training and the financial support they need. indeed, i don't know of any senator that's done more to help america's heroes adjust to life after the military. that's just one of the reasons why she will be sorely missed. here's another reason, though: kay has fought time and time again to promote tax relief for hardworking texas families. in thehooin the mid-1990's, shed create the so-called homemaker ira to make sure that stay-at-home moms and

source that we potentially can use for the next 100 years. there are a lot of folks right now that are engaging in hydraulic fracking doing it safely. the problem is we haven't established clear guidelines for how to do it safely and informed the public so that neighbors know what's going on. you know, your family, you can make sure that any industry that's operating in your area, that they're being responsible. >> yeah. part of the fracking being so new, like you said, especially deep fracking being so new is there's a lot we don't know about it. it does burn cleaner than coal in power plants. that's pretty uncontested, but if you go look at the methane released by fracking and by transporting this stuff through pipeline there's a lot of methane released, and it's a powerful greenhouse gas in terms of co2. the balance of climate change between natural gas and coal is still somewhat a question mark. it looks based on most science we have now cleaner than coal, but we just don't know. we don't know a lot about the local impacts and how long these prices stay low or how long the

county, low 10 county and frederick county and this is setting up like a typical situation for us why where i-95 is the all-important line. south and east of that, you're talking about mainly rain and little, if any, accumulation and from d.c. to the north and west and that is where we think most of the accumulation is going to be. you can see the city's involved in the winter weather advisory. front royal, winchester, frederick, hagerstown, leesburg and rockville. it doesn't look like this is going to be a big storm at all for us, moving long quickly. the way we see it now, most of the snow will arrive for everyone before sunrise and basically coming in overnight tonight. for the d.c. area here, we're talking about snow and we'll see snow for most of the day tomorrow. the highest accumulations will be north and west which, is very typical around here and all of the precipitation, whether it's rain or snow, will be tapering off late in the day. coming up with the full forecast, will, we're talking about where we think the greatest accumulations will be and who sees an inch of wet snow

holiday. >>> thank you, suzanne. i'm victor blackwell in for brooke baldwin. thank you for being with us today. the president is pulling the plug on his trip to hawaii to tend to urgent matters in washington. with tax hikes looming in less than a week, he's scheduled to return to the white house tomorrow, just as a deadlocked congress reconvenes days ahead of the so-called fiscal cliff. you're just six days from feeling this. now, first hit is coming on january 1st when your take home pay will drop by 2% because of a scheduled hike in the social security payroll tax. that's just the start. income taxes are set to climb too. and you'll notice that when employer gets to around the adjusted withholding, the government spending cuts, those are also scheduled for january 1st and bound to slow the economy and some argue they'll weaken the military. congress has seen this coming, but an effort to limit the damage failed last week. republican house speaker john boehner could not persuade enough members of his party to let tax rates rise on incomes over a million dollars while sparing everyone el

the area. partly sunny friday for us. much less windy than yesterday. high temperatures in the low 40s. here is our next little storm. that will slide up through the tennessee valley and into the washington area by early tomorrow morning. a couple of features with it. look like it will trend a little colder so more of the area will see freezen precip. right now, things could change, we're still 24 hours away, but right now, it looks like a couple of inches of snow. here is your advisory i mentioned. winter weather advisory goes into effect tomorrow morning at 3:00 a.m. through 6:00 saturday. right now, it is just across the northern tier of maryland pushing out into western maryland and west virginia. but the weather service is making some indications that it will likely get a little closer to washington. it might even include the district. they will reassess later today. we have a winter weather advisory off to the north and west where they're most confident that we'll get self inches of snow. across northern maryland, you might see 3 or 4 inches of snow early tomorrow morning. let's
